Darkness to Light Prevention Programs

Awareness and education is the greatest aid we have in protecting children from abuse. Community involvement is the most effective way to do so, because as the saying goes, "it takes a village to raise a child.” Darkness to Light has developed two programs to educate adults about the prevalence and consequences of child sexual abuse, while educating them on how to prevent and responsibly handle the reality of it. The Prevent Now Meeting brings individuals from the community together to hear about the problem of child sexual abuse and its human and economic impact on their community.  It also provides many opportunities for community members to get involved to help stop this horrible abuse.

The Stewards of Children training teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.  Adults learn statistics, warning signs, and tactics to aggressively scare off a predator, policies and procedures and behaviors that suggest that a child has suffered abuse.

From 2010 to 2017, Garth House facilitated 247 Stewards of Children® trainings for a total of 6,191 parents, educators, service providers, and general community members. Trainings were conducted for 108 different entities. Of these groups, 46 were schools across 11 different districts.

Several ways to get involved:

  • Host a meeting or training session
  • Make donations
  • Underwrite the cost of training through Sponsorships
  • Register for the Stewards of Children adult training program
  • Attend an authorized facilitator workshop for certification to conduct Stewards of Children Training Sessions
