Baby
Moses Law
Being a parent is a big
responsibility. Some parents for
whatever reason cannot take care of their new born. The Baby Moses Law provides
a responsible alternative to infant abuse, abandonment or murder. Texas law allows parents of an unharmed
infant under 60 days old to hand their baby over to a medical professional at a
designated safe baby site. Safe baby sites include fire stations, EMS stations
and hospitals emergency rooms. If the baby is unharmed no questions will be
asked and the parent(s) can remain anonymous. The parents are only asked to
provide medical information about the child to help answer health questions in
the future. If you take your child to a designated official site and HAND your
baby to a medical professional, you will NOT be prosecuted for child abuse,
neglect or abandonment and the police will NOT be called. After you leave, your
baby will be given immediate medical attention to ensure that it is healthy.
The Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services will then take
custody of your child and your baby will be placed with a caring family. Don’t
harm or abandon your baby and risk neglect and abuse charges. If you cannot
care for your infant, look for the yellow safe baby signs and place your child
into the arms of someone who will ensure that he/she gets the care and love
that a child needs.
